This is an Alternate Universe Game of Thrones RP.
In this universe the transition from the Targaryen's as kings to the Baratheon's as kings was not quite so dramatic or bloody.
King Aerys II, was indeed the mad king and he had to be stopped that much was true. Robert Baratheon, Eddard Stark, and Jon Arryn attempted to settle the matter peacefully. However when King Aerys refused to step down from the throne they were forced to a minor civil war. King Aerys II was killed by Jamie Lannister, of the kingsgaurd. Rhaegar Targaryen, King Aerys II's heir, was killed in battle by Robert Baratheon.
The rest of the Targaryens were permitted to live and have lordship over dragonstone so long as they swore fealty to House Baratheon. They reluctantly agreed and as such lived.
Due to this many of the characters in Game of Thrones were never even born, including Prince Joffery, and the war of the five kings never happened. This is a few hundred years after that, and in that time the country has known nothing but peace and a few mild winters. This summer has been particularly long, fifteen years in fact.
However now the matter of succession seems uncertain, and the country's future hangs in the balance.
